Healthy Snacks

Hey y’all!

I really try to make an effort to not keep a bunch of unprepared food in my pantry and refrigerator at home in order to curb any desire to snack. This wasn’t much of a problem for me until around my junior year of college.

Now, I try to only keep a few healthy items in my pantry that I can grab on the go and feel relatively guilt-free about eating.

One of my dear friends, Aby, recently started her own blog that talks about her weight loss transformation and let me just tell you, I was SO inspired by her post. To read more about Aby’s journey, click here.

This week’s food photography leaves much to be desired, but that’s what happens when you’ve had a glass of wine and its 9pm, so my apologies.

Blueberries

I always keep some blueberries or bananas in my refrigerator as easy to grab snacks that I can take on the go or munch on in my apartment. Blueberries are super high in antioxidants, which help combat aging, and they are an excellent source of gallic acid, which is known for its brain power. Plus an entire cup of blueberries only has 85 calories, so what more could you ask for?

Trader Joes Inner Peas

These little babies are some of my favorite things to nibble on. These dried whole green peas give me that feeling of eating chips, but are much healthier. A single serving is around 22 pieces of these peas and that’s a lot, plus they only have 130 calories per serving. Plus a bag of these is less than $1.50!!

Gluten Free Honey Mustard & Onion Pretzel Sticks

I discovered these pretzels a few months ago when I was at Hannah’s bachelorette party. One of the other bridesmaids, Piper, has to follow a strict gluten free diet and she picked these up and I have been obsessed since. Not only are they gluten free, theses pretzels have no dairy – which is great for someone who is lactose sensitive like me. A serving size is about 30 pretzels and only has 130 calories!

Baked Whole Grain Goldfish

Several years ago I had to cut out Goldfish from my snacking circle because they are just so addicting. This baked, whole grain version leaves me feeling a lot less guilty and lets me have one of my childhood favorites. Plus, I can have 55 Goldfish for only 140 calories. Seriously, what could be better?

Carrots and Supremely Spicy Hummus

This hummus is my absolute FAVORITE. By now you probably know that I am obsessed with anything that is spicy and has a kick to it. Two tablespoons of this hummus has only 70 calories and paired with my favorite organic carrots it makes for the perfect, filling snack.

ThinkThin Bars

A few weeks ago I posted a picture of these on Instagram and they are seriously my new favorite on-the-go treat. I especially love the chocolate fudge ones. These bars boast 20 grams of protein per serving and have 0 grams of sugar. If I can have something that is good for me, tastes like cake, and only has 230 calories then I am in. I especially love these for breakfast with a piping hot cup of coffee.

I find snacks are important for me so I don’t over eat or indulge at lunch and dinner times.

What are your favorite snacks?

Xoxo,

Cara
